Purpose of Enactment

'Paiknam Prize' was established to honor and develop the philosophy of life of Dr. Paiknam Kim Lyun-joon, the founder of Hanyang Foundation, and the spirit of 'love in deed and truth', the founding philosophy of Hanyang Foundation.
Paiknam Prize is set up for three categories: engineering, music, human rights and service, in honor of his pragmatic spirit who established Hanyang Foundation with the conviction that he will save the country through science and technology education, his passion as an artist who composed and published numerous songs such as the song 'I will live in green hill' and 'threnody(biga)', and the spirit of sacrifice and service devoted to caring for the poor and to human rights.
Paiknam Prize is aiming to encourage the individuals and organizations that have made respectable achievements in these three areas and to spread the spirit of Dr. Paiknam to today and to lead our society into a better society.
<Purpose of Paiknam Engineering Award>
In 1939, during the period of Japanese colonial rule, Dr. Paiknam, who was trying to save his country through science and technology education without losing hope, was a pioneer of the times. Paiknam's leadership was implemented through the education of Hanyang University and raised the key talents that led to the industrialization of Korea. In this regard, the Paiknam Engineering Award was established to maintain the practical spirit and promote the development of Korean engineering education by honoring the achievements of researchers who have contributed to development of the society through world-class creative and practical research and spread the practical spirit of Dr. Paiknam.
<Purpose of Paiknam Music Award>
Paiknam was the youngest musician who held the first baritone recital in Korea. By the 1970s, by resuming the dreams and enthusiasm of an artist which had been temporarily reserved for his educational work, he composed songs like "I will live in the green hill" and "A powerful hand of the Lord”. Paiknam Music Award is aimed at promoting the development of Korean music by reviving Paiknam 's artistic soul today by enacting the Paiknam Music Award by honoring the artistic achievements of the musicians who represent the Korean music community.
<Purpose of Establishing Paiknam Human Rights and Service Award>
The philosophy of Paiknam's life was 'Love in deed and truth'. Paiknam realized his philosophy of life through various volunteer activities throughout the society, and in particular, he achieved the desired goal through the activities of the Korean Confederation of International Human Rights. In this regard, we will promote the work of volunteers who have made efforts to create a beautiful society by establishing the Paiknam Human Rights and Service Prize, and will promote the work of creating a better Korean society by inheriting the practice spirit of Dr. Paiknam.
